The right choice depends on your budget, your consumption and your appetite for risk. Here is the difference in plain English.
Every engagement follows the same documented path, so there are no surprises and a paper trail your finance team can follow.
We review your load, contracts, sites and renewal profile to establish the real baseline.
We set the approach, fixed, flexible or renewable, against your risk appetite and goals.
We compare quotes across our supplier panel, negotiate, and place the contract with fees disclosed in full.
We validate invoices, manage the account, and flag renewals well ahead of time.
Several sites, often on different contracts, coming up for renewal.
Energy-intensive operations where procurement is a board-level cost line.
On-site generation seeking a route to market, and businesses answering to their own customers on carbon.
"A clean benchmark at renewal, a real route to verifiable UK renewable supply, or a second view that stands up when your board asks the hard questions."
Never tied to supplier targets or volume incentives. We compare quotes across a broad supplier panel on merit, and the decision is always yours.
Commission or fees are agreed with you and set by us, disclosed in pence per kWh or per day at quote stage before you sign, and shown on every contract, as Ofgem rules require. How we are paid.

In whichever way suits you best: commission included in your unit rate or your standing charge, or a fixed consultancy fee agreed up front. For audits and bill recovery we can also work on a share of savings. Whichever you choose, we set the level, disclose it before you sign, and it is shown in your supplier contract. See how we are paid.
An independent energy consultant benchmarks your electricity, gas and water contracts across a panel of suppliers, negotiates terms, manages the timing of your purchasing, and validates the invoices that follow. Independent means no supplier targets or volume incentives: Energy Planner is paid transparently, with commission and fees disclosed at quote stage.
Usually, yes, but the cheapest unit rate is rarely the cheapest contract. We compare offers across a broad supplier panel on total cost, including standing charges, capacity and non-commodity charges, check the timing of when you buy, and make sure reliefs you are entitled to are applied. That is what lowers the bill, not just the headline rate.
Often more than people expect. Bill validation recovers overcharges, capacity reviews remove excess charges, reliefs such as CCL and BICS reduce levies, and half hourly data shows waste out of hours. Switching is only one lever, and sometimes not the biggest.
A fixed contract locks your unit rates for the full term in one purchase, giving budget certainty but concentrating all timing risk in a single day, with a supplier risk premium built into the rate. A flexible contract hedges the same volume in tranches ahead of delivery, and you are billed at the volume-weighted average price (WAP) of those purchases, so no single day decides your rate. Fixed suits organisations that cannot absorb a budget overshoot; flexible suits larger, multi-site or volatile loads with a written risk strategy.
Often, yes. Many brokers are paid through an undisclosed uplift added to your unit rate. Energy Planner discloses commission and fees at quote stage, before you sign, and confirms them in every contract, as Ofgem rules require. You can request a full fee statement at any time.
Bill validation checks every invoice against your contracted rates, meter data and applicable charges, then challenges errors and recovers overpayments, including VAT and Climate Change Levy relief where it applies. With non-commodity charges now making up over half of a typical business bill, errors are common enough that validation usually pays for itself.
MOP is your Meter Operator contract, covering the installation and maintenance of half-hourly metering. DC/DA is Data Collection and Data Aggregation, the contracts that retrieve and process your consumption data for settlement. Every half-hourly supplied site needs them. Energy Planner arranges and manages both, and provides platforms that turn the data into consumption you can see and act on.
Yes. Energy Planner benchmarks and negotiates retail water contracts across the deregulated market, and audits water tariffs and consumption alongside energy, with the same fee transparency at quote stage.
Yes. With direct renewable supply, the output of named UK generators such as hydro, wind or solar is matched against your consumption through a licensed supplier, with the balance topped up from the grid. Energy Planner checks whether it suits your sites, compares it with conventional supply and manages the contract.
The British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme exempts eligible manufacturers from the indirect costs of the Renewables Obligation, Feed in Tariffs and Capacity Market on their electricity. To qualify, a business must be registered at Companies House, operate in an eligible sector, make eligible products in Great Britain, and use at least 33 MWh of grid electricity a year at the site. Applications for year one are open now and close on 30 November 2026. Energy Planner screens eligibility and checks the saving reaches your bill.
